Men’s Divisions

All three of our under 11 teams played this weekend with our Green team taking on Williamstown and unfortunately going down by a score of 17-7.  The team played very hard and gave their best effort behind the leading scorer of the day Harrison Lester who had 3 goals and 1 assist on the day.  Both our Silver and White team traveled to Camberwell for morning games.  The Silver team took on a very good Camberwell Buzz team and unfortunately lost by a score of 22-1.  Although the team did not come out on top, Grace Gilmartin netting the teams only goal on the day was one of the bright moments on the day.  The White team faced a competitive Camberwell Scorpions team in the cold and came out with a convincing 26-2 victory.  The point leaders on the day were Jack Gerardi with 10 goals and 4 assists, while Valerio Catoggio contributed with 6 goals and 2 assists.  All three teams are back in action on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 9:00am.

The under 13 team traveled away to take on a very physical Eltham team this past weekend.  The team fought hard unfortunately losing by a score of 12-0.  Although the team lost they showed great fight in playing their hardest even though the outcome was not what they wanted.  There were no point leaders for this week’s game but the team plans to train hard with a couple of days off so that they can be at their best for the next game.  The teams next game will be on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 9:00am at Angliss Reserve 1 versus Chadstone.

The Footscray under 15 team made its way to Moreland this past weekend in a hard-fought battle.  Although the Moreland team was a bit shorthanded our team rotated one guy from their team to play with Moreland for a little while so that they could play a full 10vs10 game.  Even with giving Moreland some help with our own players the team still managed to earn a great team victory by a score of 12-7.  The point leaders this week were Kyle Chamberlin with 6 goals and 1 assist, while Elliot John had 4 goals and 3 assists to help earn the victory. They look to keep this win streak alive as they take on Eltham away on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 10:30am at Lower Eltham Park 1.

Our under 17 team took on a good Melbourne High School team this past weekend earning an impressive 24-0 win.  The team started out a little slow in the early minutes but then turned it on with both great defense and an exploding offense led by point leader of the day Joel Kukucka with 8 goals. The team looks to keep improving with their next game coming on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 10:30am at Angliss Reserve 1.

The Div. 3 team this week had a tough match up against rival Williamstown.  The game was a very back and fourth game with Williamstown pulling away by a score of 9-6.  It was a tough game and the team played hard with some younger players getting some well-earned playing time this past weekend.  The leading point scorers for the day were Jackson Marsh with 1 goal and 1 assist and Thomas Mcdonald with 2 goals.  The team looks to learn from its mistakes in hopes of bouncing back in the win column next game.  The next game will be on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 12:45pm at Angliss Reserve 1.

Div. 1 faced a talented Chadstone team this past weekend at home.  The team played hard and fought to the very last whistle unfortunately coming up a little short, falling to Chadstone 9-4.  With some uncharacteristic play and unforced turnovers that dug them into a hole they could not get themselves out of.  The point leaders for the game were Robert Buchhorn with 3 goals and Jake J. Phillips (jun) with 1 goal.  The team looks to have more assisted goals in the next outing as they take on Eltham at 2:45pm on Saturday July 15, 2017 at Lower Eltham Park 1.

State League this week played against rival Williamstown at their place in a great match up.  The game was a very back and forth type of game with Footscray leading from start to finish but never leading by more than 3 goals at a time and finishing with a final of 12-10.  It was a physical game played to the very end.  Missing in this game for Footscray due to injury was leading scorer Anthony Biscardi with a calf injury and going down with and injury during the game was Matthew Singleton.  Both players hope to be back by next game and be 100%.  The point leaders for Footscray were Jordan Germershausen with 5 goals and Jim Lawerson with 2 goals and 2 assists.  There will be no game this weekend (July 8, 2017) due to the Maverick Challenge tournament starting on Thursday July 6, 2017, which a lot of the guys will be playing in. The team looks to keep the unbeaten streak alive as it returns to play on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 2:45pm at Angliss Reserve 1 against Altona.

Women’s Divisions

The under 13 girls team faced a tough Eltham/Surrey Park team this past weekend.  The girls had a dominating 16-3 win and really played a complete game.  The point leaders for this past weekend were Mihiri Dharmabandu with 6 goals and 1 assist Ebony Norman with 1 goal and 4 assists. It was a great team win and the team looks to keep things rolling when they play next on Sunday July 16, 2017 at 9:00am against Eastside at Greenwich Reserve 3.

Our tough under 15 girls team went up against a good Eltham/Surrey Park team this past weekend.  The girls played a great game coming out on top with a score of 8-6.  The team played well together and there were a lot of goal scorers in this match up.  The point leaders for the game were Jessie Carolin-Vandenburg with 2 goals and 1 assist, Lily Gerardi, Meg Friend, and Mihiri Dharmabandu all contributed to the scoring with 2 goals each.  The team looks to build off this win as they look forward to their next game against Eastside on Sunday July 16, 2017 at 10:15am at Greenwich Reserve 3.

The under 17 girls faced a very talented Eastside team this past weekend in a very hard and close game.  The girls came out on top of Eastside with a score of 8-7 after being down at half time, showing that the girls know how to come back and win close games.  Point leaders for this past weekend were Isabella Murphy with 4 goals, and Bonnie Yu with 3 goals and 1 assist.  The girls look to keep the team chemistry alive as they will take on Eltham/Camberwell on Sunday July 16, 2017 at 11:30am at Greenwich Reserve 2.

This week our A grade team took on a talented Williamstown Women team.  It was a close game with it being a one goal game at half time.  The final score was 8-4 with Footscray coming out on top this past weekend.  The point leaders for this game were Melanie Lawerson with 3 goals, Leah Mravlek and Samantha Ahmed with 2 goals and 1 assist each.  The girls look forward to keeping the winning ways going as they take on Caulfield next on Sunday July 16, 2017 at 12:30pm at Caulfield Park 1.

Our great State League women’s team faced a good Caulfield team.  This was a great game to watch being a Footscray fan with the final score being 24-2 in a Footscray win.  The team played very well together having eight different goal scorers.  The point leaders in this game were Danelle Mollison with 6 goals 3 assists, Rebecca Lane with 3 goals and 5 assists and Sarah Mollison with 2 goals and 6 assists.  The girls do not have another game for a little while due to the Women’s Lacrosse World Cup happening from July 12, 2017- July 22, 2017.  The next game for the team will be Sunday August 13, 2017 against Newport at P.J. Lynch Reserve 1.  We like to wish all the girls who are playing on the World Cup team the best of luck as they start to head over to England for the games coming up.
