Around the Grounds- Weekly Results

All three of our under 11 teams were back in action this past weekend after a nice break. Our Green team took on an excellent MCC Hampton team and the game ended in a 13-13 draw. The team played well in the first half but then let MCC Hampton climb back in the game in the second. The leading scorers of the game were Sam Tonelli with 7 goals and 3 assists and Harrison Lester with 4 goals to 5 assists on the day. Both our Silver and White teams traveled to Williamstown for morning games. The Silver team faced a tough Williamstown Deacon team and unfortunately ended the game with a 17-0 loss. The team played hard the entire game and never stopped fighting. The White team faced another tough opponent in the Williamstown Cities. The team played one of its best games to date winning the game by a final score of 17-4. The point leaders in the game were Jake Mannix with 6 goals and 4 assists, Jack Gerardi with 5 goals and 3 assists and Patrick Reinemann with 1 goal and 4 assists. All three teams are back in action on Saturday July 22, 2017 at 9:00am.

Taking on Chadstone this week our under 13 team played a very hard fought game coming up a little short of a victory with a score of 14-7. The teams point leaders for this game were Frederic Brewer with 3 goals, Benjamin Kiely and Thomas Olsen each had 1 goal and 2 on the days. The team hopes to bounce back from this loss with a win next weekend against Williamstown at 9:00am on Greenwich Reserve 1.

The under 15 team this week took on a tough opponent in Eltham. The team played a great game despite only having 8 players to play. They played the game 8vs 8 and came up a little short with a final score of 17-12. The point leaders on the day were Kyle Chamberlain with 7 goals, Elliot Johns with 3 goals and Dean Arapidis with 2 goals. The team looks to bounce back as they take on a tough Williamstown squad on July 22, 2017 at Greenwich Reserve 2 at 10:30am.

Our Under 17 boys team faced good Camberwell team this past weekend but unfortunately Camberwell could not field a team on Saturday giving the boys the victory by forfeit. This win improves their record to 7 wins and 2 losses and 1 forfeit. The team looks to improve on its record as they face Caulfield/Malvern/Chadstone on July 22, 2017 at 10:30am at Caulfield Park 1.

The division 3 team had a great outing this past weekend grabbing a quality 19-0 victory over Altona/Wyndam. The team played very well together with most goals being assisted goals. The point leaders for the day were Chris March with 5 goals and 2 assists, Kyle Chamberlain with 5 goals and 1 assist, and Jamie Gathercole with 4 goals and 1 assist. The team looks to keep up its chemistry as they take on Eltham on July 22, 2017 at 12:45pm at Lower Eltham Park 1.

The division 1 team played against a tough Eltham team this past weekend and played a very hard game. The team ended up losing with a score of 7-2 but the team showed great heart fighting to the last whistly. The point leaders for the day were Michael Mravlek and Robert Buchhorn scoring the teams only two goals on the day. The team takes on Malvern next on July 22, 2017 at 2:45pm at Malvern Town Hall.

The state league team took on Altona with a bunch of new faces on the team for this past weekend. The team was short a few of its normal state league players due to vacation and injuries. A big shout out and thank you goes to Sage D’Costa who came out of retirement this past weekend to help the team field a team to take on Altona. The team picked up a good quality win with a score of 15-9. There were a bunch of scorers on the day but the point leaders were Peter Kwas with 5 goals and 2 assists, Jordan Germershausen with 3 goals and 2 assists, and Jim Lawerson with 3 goals 1 assist. Also, contributing to the scoring was Jeff Melsopp with 2 goals, Miles Blair and Aaron Aldred each with a goal. The team looks to keep this winning streak alive as they take on Eltham on July 22, 2017 at 2:45pm at Lower Eltham Park 1.

Women’s Division

Our under 13 girls team faced a talented Eastside team this past weekend. The girls grabbed a great team win with a score of 9-4.  The point leaders for the day were Greta Murphy with 3 goals, Petra Hansby with 2 goals and 2 assists and Nala Habib, Mihiri Dharmabandu, Mabel Murphy, and Stella Olsen each contributing a goal.  The girls look keep training hard and take advantage of this coming weekend bye week.

Our tough under 15 girls team went up against a good Eastside team this past weekend.  The team played very well together with a handful of players scoring.  The team won by a score of 16-6 and the goal scorers on the day were Mihiri Dharmabandu with 6 goals, Lily Gerardi with 4 goals, and Ebony Norman, Jessie Carolin-Vandenberg, Eliza Green each having 2 goals.  The girls hope to keep things rolling next weekend July 22, 2017 at Lower Eltham Park 2 against Williamstown Women Blue at 10:15am.

The under 17 girls team this past weekend played a very complete game as they got the victory 15-3 against Eltham/Camberwell.  The point leaders for the day were Bonnie Yu with 5 goals and 1 assist, Georgia Latch with 4 goals and 2 assists and Isabella Murphy with 4 goals and 1 assist.  Lily Gerardi and Jessie Carolin-Vandenberg contributed each with a goal.  The team wants to keep its winning ways alive as they play Williamstown Women at 11:30am at Lower Eltham Park 2.

The A grade girls kept their winning ways alive this past weekend as they beat Caulfield with a score of 13-5.  The point leaders for the game were Rhiannon Birch with 7 goals, Danelle Mollison with 5 goals and 2 assists, and Danielle Lane with 3 assists.  Lauren Mclain, Isabella Murphy and Leah Mravlek each had an assist on the day.  The girls face Altona this coming weekend at 1:15pm at Mont Albert Reserve.

The first of the girls 7v7 games was this weekend and the girls took on an excellent Newport team.  The girls came out on top with a score of 10-4.  The girls played an excellent team game with the point leaders being Danelle Mollison with 3 goals 3 assists, Stephanie Kelly with 3 goals and Emily Prentice with 2 goals.  The girls face Caulfield this coming weekend in the second round at Lower Eltham Park 1 at 3:15pm.
